  What is Cat Scratch Fever!

 


Cat Scratch Fever also known as Cat Scratch Disease (CSD) is normally caused by a bacteria known as Bartonella henselae. Cat Scratch Fever is usually common in kids than adults, just because children play with cat and have close contact with them.

Cat Scratch Fever is not contagious, most people will not become very ill with this infection and usually gets better by itself over several months without any specific treatment. This infection can be more serious with people who have poor immune systems.

It is not necessary that a chid get infected with Cat Scratch Fever only when bitten or scratch by cat because the bacteria associated with this infection is also present on cat fur, so one get get infected from petting a cat and the rubbing the eyes.

 
 


Generally people with cat scratch disease have a record of contact with cats, in particular less than one year old. Sometimes people who get cat scratch disease do not recall ever being scratched or bitten by a cat.

40% of cats carry Bartonella henselae,e the carrier bacteria of Cat Scratch Fever in their saliva, and the cats almost always appear healthy.

Cat Scratch Fever is commonly diagnosed by medical symptoms and a positive history of contact with young cats or kittens. The course of CSD is self-limiting, and lymphadenitis generally resolves in 2 to 4 months with no treatment.

These symptoms may develop in chid within 7-10 days after being scratched or bitten by cat.
